Mapping Restoration Activities on Dirk Hartog Island Using Remotely Piloted Aircraft Imagery

چکیده

Conservation practitioners require cost-effective and repeatable remotely sensed data for assistive monitoring. This paper tests the ability of standard piloted aircraft (DJI Phantom 4 Pro) imagery to discriminate between plant species in a rangeland environment. Flights were performed over two 0.3–0.4 ha exclusion plot sites, established as controls protect vegetation from translocated animal disturbance on Dirk Hartog Island, Western Australia. Comparisons discriminatory variables, classification potential, optimal flight height made sites with different diversity. We found reflectance bands variables have high differentiation whilst measures texture less useful multisegmented canopies. Discrimination varied omission errors ranging 13 93%. Purposely resampling c. 5 mm captured at 20–25 m above terrain identified that 120 would improve capture efficiency future surveys without hindering accuracy. Overall accuracy site low diversity (n = 4) was 70%, which is an encouraging result given limited visible spectral bands. With higher 10), reduced 53%, although it expected additional or grouping like species. Findings suggest environments diversity, monitoring using RPA viable.

Mapping Root Zone Soil Moisture Using Remotely Sensed Optical Imagery

Field-based soil moisture measurements are cumbersome. Remote sensing techniques based on active or passive microwave data have limitations. This paper presents and validates a new method based on land surface energy balances using remotely sensed optical data ~including thermal infrared!, which allows field and landscape-scale mapping of soil moisture depth-averaged through the root zone of ex...

A remotely piloted aircraft system in major incident management: concept and pilot, feasibility study

BACKGROUND Major incidents are complex, dynamic and bewildering task environments characterised by simultaneous, rapidly changing events, uncertainty and ill-structured problems. Efficient management, communication, decision-making and allocation of scarce medical resources at the chaotic scene of a major incident is challenging and often relies on sparse information and data. Communication and...
